    Flash - Full Page

Butler Web Media works primarily with three categories of web design: Flash sites, HTML sites, and combination sites of Flash and HTML. Not considered a category of design, we also provide services for templates.

The type of site that is best for you depends on many factors - some of which might be type of business, target audience, marketing strategy, and budget.

Site optimization is always a major concern for any business when dealing with the Web. HTML is the best option for ultimate optimization results. However, it is not as visually stimulating as Flash is. A trade off for beauty is sometimes a sacrifice in optimization capability. Though Flash can be optimized, it is only a fraction of what is possible with HTML.

Butler Web Media often works in the middle - with both Flash and HTML. This brings the visual beauty and interactivity offered by Flash, while enabling specific content to be strictly HTML (and searchable).

The right choice for you usually becomes apparent in the early stages of discussion and planning. Back to Top

Content

Images Generally the most considered and time-consuming part of content for a website is images. Images must be made "web-ready" with proper sizing, resolution/dpi, and file type. Preferred formats include PSD, PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, EPS, or AI (Adobe Illustrator). If images need other kinds of editing such as color, clean-up, or cropping, the process takes more time and usually increases the cost.

Text Written content is provided in full by the client. The client also assumes all responsibilty for the legitimacy and legality of the text (including copyright). Whereas Butler Web Media organizes and places the text on the page (by copy and paste), proof-reading and editing is the responsibility of the client. Proofing services are available through partners. Butler Web Media does not re-type text or perform data entry. Due to the time required for this manual process, it must be outsourced if it is necessary.

Animation/Video Flash animation is produced in-house at Butler Web Media and customized in every way including file size, frame rate, and preloader if necessary. Video must be provided by the client in MPEG, AVI, or FLV format. If fresh video needs to be produced, we can accomplish this through our audio/visual partner.

Planning is key to the success and overall satifaction of the project. Changes in content, design, buttons/labeling, etc. are subject to additional charges as well as compromising the overall timeline and completion schedule.

Process of Building a Website
The process of building a website can be extremely efficient if the site is properly planned for both the designer and the client. Changes to a plan, even minor, after production has begun can pose delays and more work, thus increasing the project cost.

One of the goals of Butler Web Media is be sure that the client is ready to begin building the website. A majority of the written content (75-80%) should be ready or very near ready before development begins. We have to know what to accomodate for before designing can start. Photos and graphics are not as concerning at this point because placeholders can be staged in their place.

During the planning process, the site is outlined showing what is necessary to accomodate the desired look and feel as well as the content. The domain name and hosting services are also secured at this time.

Page planning involves breaking the site ouline into sections by page, and then page content. By the time this step is complete, every page of the website will have a kind of blueprint that guides design and development. Animation and video requirements are addressed and planned for at this time as well.

Graphic design and imaging is usually the most time-consuming and most expensive part of the venture. It is important to know what kind of graphics will be used, how many, and their placement. This allows the graphic preparation process to be planned in the most cost-effective way. The client should have all photography delivered to the designer at this time.

Final staging of the site is posted to Butler Web Media's staging URL for the client to review and tweak with the designer. Once the client is completely satisfied with the site, the final administrative details are concluded and the site is uploaded to the client's host server.
