Virtual Dedicated Servers |
|
| |
Occupying the space between the shared and dedicated hosting formats, a virtual dedicated server offers many of the capabilities and features of dedicated servers, including administrator (root) access and dedicated IP addresses, but at a much lower price. Users share a server, but because each virtual dedicated server is effectively isolated from other accounts, the user has full control over the server space.
Also, virtual dedicated server plans feature very high performance and available disk space and bandwidth.
We partition our servers in such a way that each virtual dedicated server operates almost entirely independently of the other accounts that share the server space. This means that with a virtual dedicated server, you will enjoy consistent, high performance, even when usage peaks on the main server.
Virtual dedicated servers are particularly useful for companies and individuals that run higher-traffic Web sites or complex applications and thus need the bandwidth, consistent performance, and flexibility of a virtual dedicated server.
How do I setup my virtual dedicated server?
Once you have built and purchased your virtual dedicated server, you can finish setting it up in the Virtual Dedicated Hosting Manager.
For more information about setting up a virtual dedicated server, click here.
What can I install on my virtual dedicated server?
You may install anything you want to on your virtual dedicated server—as long as you do not violate the restrictions listed in your license agreement.

Are there any restrictions on the content I can keep on my virtual dedicated server account?
As long as the material does not violate the regulations listed in the license agreement, you may upload any type of content to your virtual dedicated server account.

Dedicated Servers |
|
| |
Unlike normal hosting plans, which put many customers' accounts on a single server, a dedicated server is reserved exclusively for the account and usage of a single customer. This means that the dedicated server customer has exclusive rights to their server's bandwidth, memory, and storage space, and performance is not affected by traffic and the usage patterns of other customers.
When you purchase a dedicated server, you are actually leasing a server box that is configured and set up according to your preferences, but remains at our data center. A dedicated server account provides you with a dedicated IP address and full control of server usage and software installation, with admin (root) access to the server.
You can use a dedicated server for a wide variety of purposes, including gaming servers, database management, and traffic-intensive Web sites. Dedicated servers are particularly useful for companies and individuals who run very-high-traffic Web sites or applications and who need the bandwidth, versatility, and consistent performance of a dedicated box.
How do I set up my dedicated server?
Once you have built and purchased your dedicated server, you can finish setting it up in the Dedicated Hosting Manager.

What can I install on my dedicated server?
You may install anything you want on your dedicated server, as long as the installed material does not violate the restrictions listed in the license agreement.
Are there restrictions to the content I can keep on my dedicated server?
As long as the material or content does not violate the regulations listed in the license agreement for your account, you can upload any type of content that you want on your dedicated server.

Dedicated IP |
|
| |
A dedicated IP (Internet Protocol) is a unique Internet address dedicated exclusively to a single hosting account. Normally, several hosting accounts reside on a single server and share that server's IP address. Dedicated IP addresses are usually used for large SSL-encrypted secure Web sites and particularly large and/or traffic-heavy sites. Most shared hosting users have no particular need for a dedicated IP address.
However, a dedicated IP address for your hosting account enables you to:
- View your Web site via its IP address.
- Access your accounts by FTP or the Web when the domain name is otherwise inaccessible, such as during domain name propagation periods.
- Ensure faster response during periods of high traffic load.
- Set up SSL protection on your Web site.
Who needs a dedicated IP?
Most shared hosting users have little need for a dedicated IP address. However, a dedicated IP address does provide certain advantages.
Generally speaking, a dedicated IP allows you to:
- View your Web site via its IP address.
- Access your accounts by FTP or the Web when the domain name is otherwise inaccessible, such as during domain name propagation periods.
- Ensure faster response during periods of high traffic load.
- Set up SSL protection on your Web site.

Domain Names |
|
| |
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a Web address, such as coolexample.com, that is linked to an IP address (which represents a physical point on the Internet). The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the governing body that coordinates links between IP addresses and domain names across the Internet, so you can find Web sites by entering domain names instead of IP addresses into your Web browser.
For example, think of an IP address as an address for a house or business, such as the White House. The address, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is comparable to an IP address, and the name you know it as, the White House, is comparable to a domain name.
A domain name consists of a top-level and a second-level domain. A top-level domain (TLD), or domain extension, is the part of the domain name located to the right of the dot (coolexample.com). The most common domain extensions are .COM, .NET, and .ORG. Some other popular domain extensions are .BIZ, .INFO, .NAME, and .WS. These common extensions have certain guidelines, but are usually available to any registrant, anywhere in the world.
There are also restricted top-level domains (rTLDs), like .AERO, .BIZ, .EDU, .MIL, .MUSEUM, .NAME, and .PRO that require registrants to represent a certain type of entity or to belong to a certain community. For example, the .NAME domain extension is reserved for individuals, while .EDU is reserved for educational entities.
Country-code TLDs (ccTLDs) are for Web sites and registrants of a particular geographic location, such as .BZ (Belize), .CA (Canada), .DK (Denmark), .EC (Ecuador), .IE (Republic of Ireland), .UK (United Kingdom), .US (United States), and .ZW (Zimbabwe).
The part of the domain name located to the left of the dot (coolexample.com) is called the second-level domain (SLD) name. The second-level domain name is the "readable" part of the address and refers to the organization or entity behind the Internet address. Second-level domain names must be unique on the Internet and registered with an ICANN-accredited registrar. As an ICANN-accredited registrar, you can register domain names through us.
How do domain names work?
Registering a domain doesn't automatically make your Web site appear when visitors enter your domain into a Web browser. You have to upload your Web site to a computer that hosts the site and assigns a numeric address, called an IP address, to your domain. Your domain and associated IP address are stored in a database with every other domain and associated IP address. When visitors enter your domain into a Web browser, your domain works like an address forwarding service by forwarding visitors to the IP address where your Web site is stored. We use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.
What is a name server?
Nameservers are the Internet's equivalent to phone books. A nameserver maintains a directory of domain names that match certain IP addresses (computers). The information from all the nameservers across the Internet is gathered in a central registry.
This makes it possible for visitors to access your Web site using a familiar domain name, instead of having to remember a series of numbers.
Nameservers on other networks can access information at the central registry up to 8 hours after registering .COM and .NET domains and up to 48 hours for all other domain extensions. This period is referred to as the propagation period.
The nameserver you use depends on when you set up your hosting account. Our nameservers are:
After March 11, 2008
ns51.domaincontrol.com
ns52.domaincontrol.com
September 12, 2007 – March 10, 2008
ns43.domaincontrol.com

Register Domains |

Registering Domains
If your domain is available, you can register it for a period of time that you specify during the checkout process. You can use your domain to build your business and assist you in creating a dynamic online identity. You may also want to consider registering multiple domain names to:
- Keep your competition from registering a domain name that draws customers to them instead of you.
- Promote the different products and services you offer.
- Drive more traffic to your Web site.
- Enjoy more opportunities to market to, and be listed on, search engines.
- Create distinct advertising strategies that reach different target markets.
- Provide customers more ways to find you when searching the Internet.
- Capture common misspellings of your domain name, instead of sending visitors to an error page.
- Protect your brand and online identity from those who may have unsavory purposes.
To get started, you need to check if the domain name you want is available. Search Names
Who is listed as a domain’s registrant?
Any public domain registration that you register through us has your name as the registrant, just as if you registered it through any other ICANN-certified registrar. You can change all four contact fields for the domain whenever you want.
If you want to restrict your personal information from displaying, you can purchase privacy service. For more information, see Adding Privacy to Your Domains .
What if I misspelled my domain when I registered it?
Unfortunately, we are unable to change or edit the spelling of a domain after it has been registered. We try to register the domain exactly as you enter it. Should the registration succeed, you are charged, even if the domain you entered was not what you actually intended to type.
You do have the option of cancelling the domain so that it is no longer registered to you, but cancelling does not entitle you to a refund of any part of your registration fee. Cancelling a domain is a permanent action.
When can I register an expired domain?
Most registrars allow a grace period for registrants to renew expired domains. That grace period can be as short as one to two weeks or as long as one year in some cases. If the current registrant does not renew it within the allotted time frame, then that domain may become available after any grace and redemption periods during which the registrar and registry may hold the domain. The actual grace period is different for each individual registrar. Once the domain becomes available, you can register it through us.
In many cases, soon-to-be-expired domains are auctioned. If the current registrant fails to renew the registration within the allotted grace and subsequent redemption periods, you can attempt to acquire the domain by placing a bid for it.
Can I register domains if I don’t have a hosting provider?
Yes, you can register domains before you find a hosting provider. We automatically park domains you register with us. A temporary parked page displays when visitors go to your Web site. The parked page indicates you are reserving the site until you find a hosting provider and upload your site.
What does it mean to park a domain name?
When you park a domain name, a temporary Web page displays when visitors go to your domain. You may want to park your domain to indicate you are reserving it until you create your Web site, find a hosting provider, or sell the domain to a third party.
What is a Whois listing?
A Whois listing contains information associated with a domain name, such as its creation and expiration dates, the registrar of record, and various contacts (administrative, technical, etc.). Whois data is collected when a domain name is registered and is public information. The Whois information appears whenever a person conducts a Whois search on a particular domain name.

Private Registration |
|

Can I hide my personal information in the Whois directory?
We must make the contact information you listed for your domain public, per our registrar's agreement with ICANN (the international governing body of domain names). Using false information violates the registration agreement and leads to the termination of your domain registration.
However, we do offer our private domain registration services to help protect your privacy. You can purchase our private domain registration services, and we will list the Domains By Proxy name, postal address, and phone number on the Whois directory. Although Domains By Proxy is the name on the registration, you retain the full benefits of domain registration. You can:
- Cancel, sell, or transfer your domain registration.
- Revert the registrant listing for your domain registration back to you.
- Renew your domain registration when it expires.
- Designate the nameservers for your domain.
- Resolve claims arising out of a dispute involving your domain registration.
How do I activate privacy to a domain name?
Per our agreement with ICANN, we must add your domain and contact information to the Whois directory when you register a domain. However, you can add Private Registration to your domain and replace your contact information with the contact information from Domains By Proxy, our affiliate company used for private registrations.

Protected Registration |
|

What is protected registration?
Protected Registration is a premium service that you can apply to most of the domain names you purchase or already registered with us. It helps ensure that you retain ownership of your domain name, regardless of expiration dates or attempts to transfer. With Protected Registration, you receive:
Domain Ownership Protection
Protects you from losing your domain because of a credit card expiration or failure or if you forget to renew your domain or change your contact information. If you fail to renew your domain name, we hold it for up to one year. During that time, it is placed on inactive, protected status with a parked page. We do not keep your related services running if your domain renewal lapses. To rescue the domain, pay the renewal fee.
Deadbolt Transfer Protection
Puts your domain on lockdown, making it impossible for any inadvertent, accidental, or malicious transfer. Unlike regular domain locking, which occurs at the registry level, Deadbolt Transfer Protection offers an even higher level of security — we lock your domain in your account.
Ownership Protection Reports
Annual domain status report and email updates help you keep track of vital domain information.
Private Registration
Typically when you register a domain, your contact information is publically available. Private Registration shields your personal information from public view. You control who reaches you and when.
Business Registration
Business Registration offers you a complete, online advertising listing that is instantly available to everyone who searches for your domain name in the Whois database.
To ensure that you receive protection for your domain name, a domain that has Protected Registration applied to it cannot be set to manually renew.
Protected Registration is not available for any domain that uses the following domain extensions:
- .ME
- .US
- .DE
- .JP
- .BE
- .AT
- .CO.UK
- .ME.UK
- .ORG.UK
- .CO.NZ
- .NET.NZ
- .ORG.NZ
- .CN
- .COM.CN
- .ORG.CN
- .NET.CN
- .TW
- .COM.TW
- .ORG.TW
- .IDV.TW
- .JOBS
- .EU
- .AM
- .FM
- .GS
- .MS
- .NU
- .TC
- .TK
- .VG
How do I add deluxe or protected registration to my domain?
If you want to update the registration type for domains you already own, you can apply Deluxe or Protected Registration to them.
For more information and the steps to adding deluxe or protected registration to a domain,
How do I cancel protected registration?
You cannot cancel Protected Registration once you apply it to one of your domains. However, you can let it expire by preventing it from automatically renewing.

Certified Domains |
|
| |
What is the process for certified domain verification?
The Certified Domain validation process is as follows:
Certified Domain Request
The requestor enters the Certified Domain control panel, types in the domain name for which the certificate is being requested and enters applicable contact information.
Whois Lookup
We review the information listed in the Whois database. Domain authorization email messages are sent to the domain’s registrant, administrative and technical contacts.
Domain Authorization
The domain administrators — i.e., the domain's registrant, administrative and technical contacts as listed in the Whois database — approve or deny the Certified Domain request. If approved, the request proceeds to the next step. If denied, the certificate request is denied.
Note: All of the contacts must approve the request in order for us to continue processing the Certified Domain request.
Telephone Verification
Upon the requestor's prompt — via the Certified Domain control panel — we call the phone number provided by the requestor. Once connection is established, an automated message plays a message containing a PIN, which the requestor must enter in the Certified Domain control panel in order for us to complete the validation process and issue the Domain Origination Certified seal.
Fraud Screening
We perform a fraud screening procedure for the domain in the Certified Domain request. If fraud is suspected, a more meticulous fraud review is applied to the process. If we determine that the domain is fraudulent, the Certified Domain request is denied.
Issuance
The Domain Origination Certified seal is issued. A computationally generated Domain Origination Certified seal is added to the Whois listing for the domain in question. The requestor may add the seal to their Web site as well. |

Email Accounts |
|
| |
How do I create an email account?
For the steps on how to create an email account, click here.
How do I use Web-Based email?
You can log on to your Web-Based Email account from your Web browser by going to the Web address for your account. The Web address is the same as your domain name, except you replace "www" with "email". For example, if your Web address is "www.coolexample.com", your email address is "email.coolexample.com".
If you have forgotten your email password or want to make changes to your email account, use the Email Control Center. For more information see Editing Your Email Address Settings .
What is Spam?
In terms of email delivery, “spam” is unsolicited bulk email. Spam is generally considered junk email and can be a continuing annoyance to its recipients. It is considered poor netiquette to send spam.
The Spam Settings preferences in Web-Based Email allow you to set behavior for filtering spam and adding email addresses to your Allowed List or Blocked List. Adding an email address or domain name to your Blocked List treats email messages from that email address or domain as spam and filters them based on your spam settings. Adding an email address to your Allowed List allows you to receive any message from that email address or domain.
You can turn your spam filter on or off, specify how to handle email messages that are identified as spam, and specify the level you want to use for filtering.
How do I activate the Spam filter?
Your new email account should be ready to use within 90 minutes of setup.
Once you purchase email accounts or hosting with email accounts, you need to set up and customize your email address and mailbox.
For information on how to setup the Spam filter, click here.
What is Phishing?
Phishing schemes are attempts to steal sensitive personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, etc., through the distribution of fraudulent email messages.
A phishing scheme typically consists of an email message that appears to originate from a trusted source, but instead is an attempt to obtain and exploit sensitive user information, such as login credentials for the targeted user's online bank account. Often, the message asks you to "update" account information (including credit card and checking account information, social security numbers, addresses, and telephone numbers). Most phishing scams instruct you to do so using a form in the body of the email. Sometimes, you will be prompted to click a link that appears to lead to an authorized Web site that belongs to a legitimate, trusted company.
The idea is to make you take the bait by entering the requested data or clicking the link and providing the requested data to the fraudulent party, which then attempts to exploit the obtained information.
As more and more communication and transactions are taking place online, phishing schemes and other attempts to steal sensitive personal information have become increasingly prevalent and innovative.
Phishing attacks against online consumers have become so widespread that an estimated 57 million Americans have received fraudulent email messages and 1.98 million may have fallen victim to the subsequent scams, resulting in approximately $1.2 billion in direct costs to U.S. banks and credit card issuers.*
Our advanced fraud protection program effectively protects you from phishing schemes by detecting and intercepting phishing attempts and other fraudulent email messages before they reach your inbox.
*According to a study by research firm, Gartner, Inc.
How do I setup Outlook with my Butler Web Services email account?
You can set up and use Microsoft Outlook Express with your Webmail account, but before you set up your account in Outlook Express, you need to set your SMTP Relay options in your email account.
For steps to setting up Outlook with your email account, click here.
What is SMTP relay?
All email accounts come with the capability of sending up to 250 email messages per day through SMTP Relay. You can purchase additional SMTP relays to increase your message limit. Your SMTP relay limit resets each day at 1:00 A.M., Arizona time. When you purchase SMTP relay accounts, you can apply the relays to any of your email addresses.
For information about setting up SMTP relay, click here.
What is a catch-all email account?
A catch-all email account is an address that is specified to receive all messages that are addressed to an incorrect email address for a domain. For example, you have three email addresses set up for coolexample.com; info@coolexample.com, sales@coolexample.com, and webmaster@coolexample.com, you can set up info@coolexample.com as a catch-all email account. Then, any email messages sent to manager@coolexample.com (or any other invalid email address), are sent to the catch-all account (info@coolexample.com).
You can set up one email address as a catch-all account per domain name.
WARNING: Catch-all accounts may receive excessive spam, as *@[domainname.com] is a much bigger target than individual email addresses. If your customer has a catch-all email address and complains about spam to the associated domain name, let them know why they're a bigger target.
What is email virus protection?
All of our email accounts include our state-of-the-art Virus Protection system that automatically blocks infected email message attachments that may damage your computer with destructive viruses. Virus scanning occurs every time our servers receive an incoming attachment. Virus Protection is in place for both Webmail and POP3 email clients so that any email messages containing an infected attachment are blocked. |

SSL Certificates |

What is a Web Server Certificate?
An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a Web site and encrypts information sent to the server using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. Encryption is the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format that can only be returned to a readable format with the proper decryption key.
A certificate serves as an electronic "passport" that establishes an online entity’s credentials when doing business on the Web. When an Internet user attempts to send confidential information to a Web server, the user’s browser accesses the server’s digital certificate and establishes a secure connection.
An SSL certificate contains the following information:
- The certificate holder’s name
- The certificate’s serial number and expiration date
- A copy of the certificate holder’s public key
- The digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority

How does a SSL certificate work?
An SSL certificate ensures safe, easy, and convenient Internet shopping. Once an Internet user enters a secure area — by entering credit card information, email address, or other personal data, for example — the shopping site's SSL certificate enables the browser and Web server to build a secure, encrypted connection. The SSL "handshake" process, which establishes the secure session, takes place discreetly behind the scene without interrupting the consumer's shopping experience. A "padlock" icon in the browser's status bar and the "https://" prefix in the URL are the only visible indications of a secure session in progress.
By contrast, if a user attempts to submit personal information to an unsecured Web site (i.e., a site that is not protected with a valid SSL certificate), the browser's built-in security mechanism triggers a warning to the user, reminding him/her that the site is not secure and that sensitive data might be intercepted by third parties. Faced with such a warning, most Internet users will likely look elsewhere to make a purchase.
How do I install my Web Server Certificate?
Once signed and issued, you will receive an email message that allows you to download the certificate along with our intermediate certificates, all of which must be installed on your Web site.
The specific installation procedure is determined by your choice of Web server software. Click the link below for Certificate-Installation instructions for all supported types of Web servers:

How does the customer know that my site is secure?
An "https://" prefix in the URL and a key or padlock icon in the browser's status bar indicate that a page within a Web site is secure.
An SSL-encrypted session usually starts once a visitor signs in to a secure area of a Web site, such as the checkout or account-management area of an online store.
How long does it take to issue an SSL certificate?
Deluxe SSL Certificates
If all required documentation has been successfully authenticated and the final phone call has been completed (during business hours of the requestor), a Deluxe SSL Certificate generally can be issued within 2-5 hours of CSR submission.
SSL Certificates
If all required documentation is provided and we successfully authenticate the submitted information, an SSL Certificate can be issued within minutes of CSR submission.
What is a Premium SSL Certificate?
A Premium SSL certificate is a digital certificate issued in conformance with the extended validation guidelines defined by the CA/Browser Forum.
The introduction of Premium SSL certificates will tighten the security of Internet transactions as certificate requestors will be subject to a thorough, standardized vetting process which all issuing Certification Authorities (CAs) must adhere to.
The Premium SSL certificate standard provides an improved level of authentication of entities that request digital certificates for securing transactions on their Web sites. The Premium SSL Certificate standard provides an improved level of authentication of entities that request digital certificates for securing transactions on their Web sites. The latest generation of Internet browsers will display Premium SSL-secured Web sites in a way that allows visitors to instantly recognize that the organization that operates the site has been authenticated in accordance with the CA/Browser Forum's uniform vetting standard.
Premium SSL certificates are particularly useful for companies whose Internet domains are considered at a high risk of being targeted by phishing schemes and other types of Internet fraud. High-risk domains include domains owned by high-profile online financial services, banking sites, auction sites, popular retailers and other sites that conduct Internet transactions likely to be targeted by Internet fraud.
What are the benefits of a Premium SSL Certificate?
In essence: The combination of a rigorous, standardized vetting process and new browser versions displaying EV SSL-secured Web sites differently enables Web site visitors to instantly recognize that a Web site can be trusted. As Internet users become familiar with the new browser versions, they will immediately recognize the difference between Web sites that are secured with traditional SSL certificates and those that are covered by the more stringent EV SSL standard.
What is the difference between a Premium SSL Certificate and a Deluxe SSL Certificate?
The main difference between Premium and Deluxe SSL certificates is the vetting process that must be completed in order for the Certification Authority (CA) to issue a signed certificate to the requestor. Additionally, Web sites secured with Premium SSL certificates will be displayed differently in the new generation of Web browsers, starting with Internet Explorer 7. New versions of Firefox and Opera browsers will soon follow.
More comprehensive than the Deluxe vetting process, the Premium SSL vetting process validates the requestor's domain control and verifies the requesting entity's legal existence and identity. The process authenticates the following information pertaining to the certificate-requesting organization:
- Legal existence: The Certification Authority (CA) must confirm with the Incorporating Agency in the requesting entity's Jurisdiction of Incorporation that, as of the date the Premium Certificate is issued, the organization named in the Premium Certificate legally exists as a valid organization or entity in the Jurisdiction of Incorporation.
- Identity: The CA must confirm that, as of the date the Premium Certificate is issued, the legal name of the entity named in the Premium Certificate matches the name on the official government records of the Incorporating Agency in the requesting entity's Jurisdiction of Incorporation. (And if an assumed name is also included, that the assumed name is properly registered by the requesting entity in the jurisdiction of its place of business.)
- Registration number: The CA must obtain the specific unique registration number assigned to applicant by the Incorporating Agency in the requesting entity's Applicant's Jurisdiction of Incorporation.
- Registered agent: The CA must obtain the identity and address of the requesting entity's Registered Agent or Registered Office (as applicable) in the requestor's Jurisdiction of Incorporation.
- Right to use domain name: The CA must take all steps reasonably necessary to verify that, as of the date the Premium Certificate is issued, the entity named in the Premium Certificate owns or has the exclusive right to use the domain name listed in the Premium SSL certificate.
- Authorization for Premium SSL certificate: The CA must take all steps reasonably necessary to verify that the entity named in the Premium SSL certificate has authorized the issuance of the Premium SSL certificate.

c-Site® |

How does c-Site®work?
To file a copyright registration application through c-Site:
- Purchase a copyright application from an authorized c-Site licensee.
- Log in to your customer account and launch c-Site.
- Complete the simple three-step application process. Most people complete this process in less than 10 minutes.
- When you are done, you will have submitted both your application and an electronic copy of the work you want to protect with a copyright registration. Upon receipt, your work is encrypted so as to provide you the greatest possible protection.
- c-Site reviews your application and work and contacts you with any questions. (However, there is no guarantee the Copyright Office will approve your application, nor is there any guarantee the Copyright Office will not raise additional questions or issues regarding either your application or work.)
- c-Site then: (i) emails you a printable application and easy filing instructions; and (ii) deletes your encrypted work from its files. c-Site's services are then complete.
- It is then your responsibility to file your application, work, and the mandatory filing fee, with the Copyright Office.
- Your application will then be in the hands of the Copyright Office. If the Copyright Office has questions, it will contact you directly. Note that it can take a few months for the Copyright Office to issue a decision.
What is copyright?
A copyright is a mark that indicates a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (Title 17 of the U.S. Code) to authors of “original works of authorship” that are fixed in tangible forms of expression. These include literary, dramatic, musical and certain other intellectual works, such as computer programs and Web sites. A copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, although it may protect the way these things are expressed.
